Be Aware

Be Aware

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he may devour; 1 Peter 5:8

Yesterday, I set a goal for myself to drink more water.  Thankfully I reached the goal, but I learned that I don’t pay much attention to my water consumption.  I reasoned with myself why or why not?  As I began thinking on the matter the word aware came to me.  I, like many others, am not aware always in spiritual nor natural deeds.  We do because we know that is what we are supposed to do.  But how mindful are we about the task that is needed and/or wanted?

Are we mindful of what we say, what we do, where we go, when we go, and even how we go?  1 Peter 5:8 is a warning for us not to get caught slipping.  Our enemy, the devil, comes in many ways and he is looking for our attention to be elsewhere.

I think of my water intake and wonder: could the enemy use it to seek to devour me?  Yes!  Here are a few ways not drinking enough water may harm me: lack of balance in my bodily fluids which may lead to dehydration, minimum waste of toxins released from the body, and dry skin.  This may not be such a big deal, but it is important that I take care of the vessel because I must be useful to God.

Remember the enemy is seeking any way you are not aware.  It may be something as simple as changing mealtime to not going down that road on your way home.  Being knowledgeable for a believer means to be directed by Holy Spirit.  We are not able to notice everything in our lives, but it is His job to do so.  When we are plugged into God, our lives are filtered through Holy Spirit, like a satellite.  We might be able to see in front of us but the aerial view can only be seen by Holy Spirit.  He is the operating system of our security system and it is He who helps us see be aware of the enemy.  If we are not attentive to the voice of God we will miss things we should be aware of.  Our focus should first be on God and this is how we will stay aware.
