Hearing the Voice of God

Hearing the Voice of God

There are many teachings and books on how to hear the voice of God, yet there are so many who do not know the voice of God.  It is hard to hear what you cannot identify.  It is simple to hear the voice of God, but you there first must be of the knowledge of what/who the voice of God is.

What is the voice of God?  Let's identify God (all of Him).  GOD is a consciousness, a body, and a voice.

The consciousness is the Father, Jesus is the body, and Holy Spirit is the voice.  The Father is the instructor, Jesus is our proof that the instructions are applicable, and Holy Spirit is the deliverer of the instructions.  The voice of God is the part of God most do not have access to.

Although people recognize the story and life of Jesus, they miss the applicable life for Jesus.  He is our example and we are to follow him.  The problem many face is being able to follow what they hear because they aren't really hearing God's voice.  Jesus showed us how to hear the voice of God.

I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.  John 9:4

Jesus could not go where He was directed unless He was able to hear it.  He heard what the Father said.   In order to do so, He had to have an open line of with the Father.

The question arises, 'How did Jesus get to hear the voice of God?'  He got the connection the same way we should: by being born again.

Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him. Matthew 3:13

To be baptized is to be purified or to be spiritually cleaned.  Yes, Jesus needed to be purified just as we should.  No one can hear unless they have ears to hear.  When you become baptized in the spirit, you are born again.  When Jesus what baptized, He was born again.  His connection with God was rediscovered.  We too must regain a connection with God.

And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:  And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Matthew 3:16-17

In John chapter 3, Jesus talks to Nicodemus and tells him how to see the kingdom and how to enter the kingdom.  These were instructions spoken to Jesus from the Father by way of Holy Spirit.  God is always speaking this way to His kingdom.  There must be ears that hear what the spirit is saying to His followers.  When we hear God's voice, it is the only way to hear what it takes to get to the kingdom.

Now the question many ask, "How do you hear God's voice?"  The answer is to be born of the Spirit.  No one can hear God's voice if you are still born of the flesh.

That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. John 3:6

God has a set order when it comes to hearing His voice.

  1. Believe in God the Father
  2. Receive Jesus His Son
  3. Be born of Holy Spirit

When this is done, we can hear the voice of God by way of Holy Spirit.  We must stop making it so difficult and follow the 'how to' defined by Jesus in John 14:23-26.  Hearing the voice of God shows your obedience to Him.  The more you obey, the more you hear.
