A Consecrated Life

A Consecrated Life

Consecrated can be defined as set apart, separate, sanctified to a divine purpose.  During the yearly years of walking with God I had not heard much of the word consecrate.  How consecrated was I to Christ?  Without knowing much of this word, my answer was "not much".   I began studying what it meant to be consecrated unto God.  The scripture I began to pray was Romans 12:1 & 2 (NKJV)

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present you bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is you reasonable service.  And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

I wanted my life to be nothing like I had made it.  It was me who allowed the mess to be what it was.  The more I prayed the word, the more I realized there were some things I had not surrendered to God.  I can recall telling God to get rid of anything that was not of Him; even me.  Yes, that's right, I was exhausted with my own way.

Most likely if you are reading this, at some point in your life you said what is know as the sinners prayer.  But maybe you have had difficulties in some areas "keeping your nose clean" so to speak.  You know you love Jesus for what He did for you and yes you want to stop whatever "it" is. Well, I'm not here to give you an excuse to stay bound to your "it".  I am here to let you know that if you are reading this you have the opportunity to become consecrated.  There are people in Christian leadership roles that give permission to live carnal Christian lifestyles and this should not be so.  Why?  Because God called us to a higher calling, 2 Timothy 1:9 (NKJV).

who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began,

When we accept Jesus to take our lives we are saying that we have chosen to forsake all that we know and follow Him, Luke 9:23 & 24 (NKJV) makes this point very plain.

Then He said to them all, "If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.  for whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whosoever loses his life for My sake will save it

When I learned the meaning of consecration; I wanted this type of life.  I hungered to be a vessel God could use. I wanted nothing to be in the way of God being able to use me for His will and not my own.  Relinquishing my will was the only way for this to take place, but how was I going to separate myself from the world.  I can not comply with the ways of the world, I must be changed by reconditioning my mind to the ways of God; follow His will forsaking my own.  Here are three ways to begin the process:

  1. Turn your back on the world
  2. Give yourself only 2 options: God or flesh (sin nature)
  3. Lay your life on the line, be willing to die for the sake of Christ

This is a start to a consecrated life, let the Holy Spirit guide you in Jesus' name.
