Being True to God

Being True to God

What does it mean to be true to God?  To answer this question, let's define the word true.  True is to be real, perfect, authentic, faithful, loyal, and (my favorite) firm to allegiance.  Now that we've defined the word true, we can apply it to our life with God.

Let's begin with our spirit.  Jesus says to us in John 4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship, must worship Him in spirit and in truth.  In order to be true to God, I must first be firm in allegiance to Him in my spirit.  My spirit must be devoted to being with His spirit.  What this infers is that we must allow God's spirit to dictate our every move and we must be willing to follow what He commands of our spirit.  When we look to be true in our spirit, we must be true to ourselves.  This leads us to the soul.  Our soul is our mind, will, and emotions.  When we give our spirits to God, we must change what we think, what we want, and what we feel.  In essence, this is being true to ourselves.

The greatest truth one can give themselves is to know that they have been given instructions. Being true to God is receiving and applying His instructions - being willing and obedient.  God began instructing/commanding man at the beginning of mankind.  When people understand God's plan would keep us true to Him, they will do what it takes to get back to it as quick as possible.  And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. Genesis 1:28

Our firm allegiance to God was messed up when sin entered in.  Jesus came to restore our ability to be true to God as it was designed.  Many are so distracted by this world, that their ability to be true to God is overshadowed with the cares of this life.  It is impossible to be firm in your allegiance to God when your focus is on life "happenings".  As we change our mind, will, and emotions, our focus on being true to God becomes our goal.

It is not burdensome!  People make it a burden when they make the attempt to be true to God without Him.  He is truly thoughtful if you can look at how easy He makes it to be true to Him.  He says and you do.

John 14:15 reads, If ye love me, keep my commandments.  When we look to be firm in our allegiance to God, we show our love for Him by doing what He says.  This is where being true to God in our body comes in.  So far we have dealt with the spirit and the soul, and now we will look at the body.

Paul spoke in Romans 7 about sin in our members.  The body is weak and will be true to the spiritual influence that it is under.  This is why being true to God in your spirit is extremely necessary.  The controller of your spirit is based on who you are true to.  If you are not true to God, then the fruit of your body is sin.  Jesus tells us in the scripture that we shall know them by their fruits.  Our fruits are what we do in our body.  The actions which are done by us tells us and others if we do or do not have a firm allegiance to God.  No matter what's going on around us we are to make sure that we, Let [our] light so shine before men, that they may see [our] good works, and glorify [our] Father which is in heaven. Matthew 5:16  Being true to God is the only way others will see what we do as righteous in our body.  All other ways will fail!

As we look to be true to God, please note: we must have a relationship with Him.  After the relationship is established, then we can begin seeking His way of doing things.   By following this method you will be true to God.  We are to check all that we do.  We must make sure we allow Holy Spirit to instruct us and then follow what He says.
